A Scam in RSC is when a player tricks another player into giving the other player their possessions, one way or another, and later finding out that they have been fooled. The scammer usually has the intent of obtaining in-game wealth unfairly. Sometimes, the scammer wants to obtain the player's password. It is against the Jagex Rules, even though it is practiced in both RuneScape Classic and RuneScape 2. Scamming has become almost non-existent due to the measures taken by Jagex, yet it still persists.

Avoiding Scams

General

• Jagex will never ask any player what their password is. Keep in mind that all Jagex moderators have a gold crown next to their name.

• Many scammers are low levelled as they do not want to risk their main account. However, this does not mean there are no high-levelled scammers.

• Always double check the trade screen as many scammers often use items that look similar to others. (Example: Uncut rubies and Dragon Medium Helmets)
  • Always mouse over the traded item to ensure that it is the item you want.
  • Sometimes, a scammer might withdraw their offer right before you click the "Accept" button.
• Sometimes, a player may claim an item is rare when it really isn't. It is always good to check the street price to make sure you are getting a good deal.
